#StudyHealers: Finals Season

As the trimester comes to a close, Rachel Lock, a Student Success Coach at Baptist Health Sciences University, has shared some helpful tips for fellow students to improve their study journeys. The objective of every coach is to deliver excellent academic support services, encourage a productive learning atmosphere to assist students in achieving academic success, and enable them to reach their educational aspirations.

Here are some valuable suggestions to consider:

  1. Plan.
    • Decide ahead of time when, where, and what you will study. Block off specific times (dates and hours of the day) you will study. Plan to minimize distractions (turn your phone on do not disturb) and select a place where you know you will not be disturbed. Plan for your health, too - prep healthy meals ahead of time and be sure to block off time to sleep.
  1. Practice a testing environment.
    • This includes taking practice tests or completing practice problems. Time yourself so you can reduce test-taking anxiety on the actual day of your exam. Practice in the same type of setting you will be taking your exam.
  2. Do not procrastinate.
    • Planning will prevent you from cramming the night before the test. Your brain cannot retain information as well when you cram, so this action unnecessarily stresses you out and keeps you from remembering what you are studying.
  3. Do not be afraid to ask for help.
    • Your professors, classmates, tutors, and success coaches are here to help! Please do not be afraid to ask when you need something.
