A smiling graduate in a navy blue cap and gown shakes hands with a university official in academic regalia while receiving an award on stage at a commencement ceremony.

“Throughout my academic career I have developed such a strong passion for respiratory care, and I am committed to using my skills to make a meaningful impact on every patient I have the privilege of caring for. Despite facing several hardships both in personal life and throughout my education, my love for respiratory care and dedication to becoming a knowledgeable and skilled therapist have kept me motivated and focused.

Some of the greatest challenges I have faced along the way of my academic journey was having my mom suffer a stroke, experiencing the loss of my dad, and choosing to reduce work hours in order to accommodate clinical class, which made it difficult to be able to keep up with financial responsibilities. Despite these struggles, I persisted in my education and proceeded toward my goal of becoming a respiratory therapist. These experiences have deepened my compassion for others and reinforced my motivation to serve them during their most critical moments.”

— Angel Hutton, Respiratory Care Graduate (April 2025)
