Neurologic System

This course explores the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system in health and disease. Students will learn to integrate osteopathic findings, imaging techniques, and biochemical markers to objectively assess nervous system function. The curriculum covers processes involving vision, hearing, olfaction, taste, speech, the cranial nerves, and the spinal cord, brainstem, and brain function. Students will identify the signs, symptoms, and consequences of nervous system pathologies resulting from trauma, ischemia, stroke, infection, toxins, autoimmune disorders, and epigenetic and genetic conditions. Topics include anatomy, developmental anatomy, histology, microbiology, physiology, and contemporary therapeutic approaches.
