Population Health

Introduces the student to population-focused care with emphasis on health promotion and disease and injury prevention across the lifespan. Relationships between the determinants of health to health, illness, disease, disability and mortality are examined. Concepts of cultural and spiritual sensitivity, ethical decision making, disaster planning and preparedness, including mass casualty disasters, and advocacy for environmental and social justice as interventions for improving population health are emphasized. The role of the baccalaureate generalist nurse is reinforced. Three credit hours theory, two credit hours clinical. Prerequisite: NSG 331, NSG 335.
