COVID-19 Campus Update

We are returning to campus this Fall! Below is a summary of topics and guidelines for a safe fall. These guidelines are dynamic and updates will be provided if changes are required. Updated 8.25.2021
The BHSU Campus is open! Building hours are back to normal operating hours. Facility access and parking info may be found here: https://www.baptistu.edu/campus-life/campus-safety-security/parking-facilities
Classes on Campus vs Online Classes: Fall 2021 classes will include more on-site classes as well as virtual classes for those who would like to choose that option. There were few instances where course sections may have to remain virtual until social distancing allows more persons per classroom capacity.
Daily Screening/School App: We will continue to require the daily screenings when you are on campus. Each student, faculty, and staff member will perform the screening by using the Baptist University screening app. If you have any questions or troubles logging in, please email UniversityNews@BaptistU.edu.
Masks: It is mandatory to wear a mask indoors while you are on campus. Masks are not required outdoors as long as you are a safe distance away from others.
Residence Halls: Campus Housing will be open for Fall 2021. There will be specific qualifications and parameters for eligibility to live on campus. To promote a safe residence hall environment and support the development of a strong community, the COVID-19 vaccination will be required for all residents this fall 2021.
Vaccination: All faculty, staff, and students will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by October 31, 2021. Residence Hall students will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the agreed upon move-in date.
Students in clinical rotations will need to meet the vaccination requirement by Oct. 31, 2021, to continue assigned learning experiences in the clinical setting. Non-clinical students will be required to show evidence of receiving the vaccination by Oct. 31, 2021 or receive a “hold” on their record, delaying registration for spring classes until the requirement is met. The only exceptions will be for students who meet approved health or religious exemptions. You must contact email@example.com to determine if you qualify for exemption.
Social Distancing: If you are on campus, you are expected to practice social distancing procedures. The CDC currently recommends you should put six feet of distance between yourself and other people.
- The Learning Center will be open. To continue to promote a safe environment, social distancing is required with only one student per table and the use of face masks at all times.
- The Computer Lab will be open allowing only two students per row (five rows) for a maximum total of ten students.
- Specific, pre-determined appointment times are available, and Smarthinking tutoring assistance available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Students are welcome to walk into the Library to print or study on first come, first serve basis (one student per table). Please be sure to sign in at the front desk for the purpose of contact-tracing. Individual study rooms can be reserved ahead of time online between the hours of 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. More than one individual per study room is not permitted at this time. Library hours of operation will remain 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday - Friday.
Testing Center Proctoring Hours: Closed, with the exception of designated faculty proctored examinations. For more information, e-mail testingcenter@BaptistU.edu.
Baptist's Emergency Communication Test/Email System - Omnilert: Go to https://bhsu.omnilert.net/ and create your account. Be sure to sign up to receive minute-of campus alerts and emergency communications. This has to be done each year – it does not automatically update each year.
Visitors & Vendors on Campus – At this time, visitors to campus and vendors are limited to appointments only. Visitors must be accompanied by someone at all times. Visitors are not allowed in the residence halls. All visitors and vendors must first check in and complete a screening at the Information Center located at the Campus Hub.
Remote vs On-Campus Work - Starting August 23rd, employees will transition into Phase 3 of the Pandemic Plan. Faculty will receive instructions from the Provost about their return to campus plan for the fall. Staff will need to work with their managers to determine days required on campus. For the fall, the employees presently working remotely will transition to at least three days on campus but may be required to return full time to campus depending on departmental and campus operational needs.
