What is the Baptist University Clinical Education Network?
The Baptist University Clinical Education Network (BUCEN) is a comprehensive, integrated clinical training network designed to connect academic medicine with real-world patient care across the Baptist Memorial Health Care (BMHCC) system.
Developed by Baptist Health Sciences University (BHSU) and the College of Osteopathic Medicine (BUCOM), BUCEN provides a seamless pathway for medical students, visiting learners, and partner institutions to access high-quality, hands-on clinical education within one of the Mid-South’s largest healthcare systems.
BUCEN serves as a Central hub for clinical training, connecting medical students and PA students to Baptist’s network of hospitals, clinics and physicians:
- Medical students seeking high-quality rotation sites
- Students pursuing visiting or audition rotations
- Physicians interested in becoming clinical educators or preceptors
Through BUCEN, we partner with a diverse network of clinical sites, preceptors, and healthcare organizations committed to high-quality, hands-on education. This network allows our third- and fourth-year students to engage in meaningful patient care across a broad range of settings, from urban hospitals to community-based practices. These experiences are intentionally designed to foster clinical competence, professional identity formation, and a strong sense of service.
By creating a centralized and coordinated approach to clinical education, the Clinical Education Network fosters strong partnerships between academic institutions and healthcare providers—expanding access to training while strengthening the regional physician workforce pipeline.

Program Sites
Central Mississippi
Mississippi Baptist Medical Center (MBMC), Jackson’s first hospital, was opened as a clinic by two doctors in 1908. Today, more than 100 years later on the same site in downtown Jackson, our modern facilities include the Baptist Cancer Center and a six-level tower housing the Cardiovascular Center and Baptist for Women. In 2017, MBMC became a part of the Baptist Memorial Health Care system, creating one of the largest not-for-profit health care systems in the country.
DeSoto
Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto is located in Southaven, MS, on the border of Memphis, TN. The hospital provides a wide range of health care services and was designated as a Top Performing Hospital by U.S. News & World Report.
Golden Triangle
Golden Triangle was named one of the nation’s Best Hospitals as well as a High-Performing Hospital for heart attack by U.S. News & World Report in 2024, and for hip fracture and knee replacement in 2022. We are the only hospital in the Golden Triangle to receive the Platinum Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry.

North Mississippi
Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford is a 217-bed acute care facility serving the northern third of Mississippi. One of the fastest growing hospitals in the region, Baptist North Mississippi recently completed construction on a new hospital located at 1100 Belk Boulevard, just minutes from the former facility.
Northeast Arkansas
NEA Baptist provides an integrated health care experience like no other in Northeast Arkansas. Northwest Tennessee
Originally founded as Obion County General Hospital, BMH-Union City became part of the Baptist system in 1982. The 137-bed facility offers health care services in northwest Tennessee and western Kentucky.
