BHSU Announces Brett Pickens as Chair of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program

Baptist Health Sciences University (BHSU) is proud to announce the appointment of Brett Pickens, DNP, AGACNP-BC, as the new Chair of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program. This announcement reflects an exciting new chapter for the program and acknowledges Pickens’ dedication to nursing education and leadership.
Pickens has served as an Associate Professor of Nursing at BHSU, where he has become known for his expertise in emergency care, strong mentorship, and passion for student success. With more than a decade of clinical and academic experience, he brings both depth and innovation to the role.
Pickens earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice from Samford University with a focus on nursing administration and education. His project, Emergency Department Prescribers' Perceptions and Current Practices on Prescribing Narcotics, reflects his interest in bridging clinical practice and policy. He also holds a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Western Governors University.
Throughout his career, he has contributed to national nursing conversations as a published author, conference speaker, and peer reviewer for journals including the Journal of Emergency Nursing. He’s also a Certified Nurse Educator and Certified Emergency Nurse, credentials that underscore his dual commitment to clinical excellence and academic rigor.
