Mayor Young Inspires Students at Future Men in Health Care Networking Event

As part of Baptist Health Sciences University’s Welcome Week festivities, Memphis Mayor Paul Young joined faculty, staff, alumni, and students for the Future Men in Healthcare Networking Event, which welcomed 50 attendees. His presence highlighted the importance of the event, designed to provide Baptist University’s male students with opportunities to build connections, establish mentorships and gain support from men currently serving in health care.
This initiative plays a pivotal role in helping students navigate their academic careers and prepare to become the next generation of health care professionals.
Mayor Young delivered a powerful and uplifting message, urging students to embrace their responsibility as future health care leaders. He challenged them to bring hope to others—regardless of backgrounds or stereotypes—one person at a time, both as students today and professionals tomorrow. The evening also carried a special connection to the university: Mayor Young’s wife, Jamila Smith-Young, D.N.P., M.P.H., C.P.N.P.-A.C., is a nurse practitioner and proud graduate of the nursing program at the university.
The event not only strengthened ties between students, alumni, and mentors but also inspired attendees to carry forward the Mayor’s charge as they continue their academic and professional journeys.
