Q: How has your transition from student to working surgical technologist been so far?

A: The transition has been very smooth and easy considering I did my clinicals at the hospital I currently work at. I am very grateful and thankful for that, and for the staff I work with.

Q: What aspects of your training at Baptist University have been most helpful in your day-to-day responsibilities in the operating room?

A: Having grit has gotten me a long way in the surgical technology field and has made me more confident, competent, and caring.

Q: What advice would you give to current students in the surgical technology program?

A: Everything comes with time. You will get to where you want with patience and the willingness to learn.

Q: How has your first job experience as a surgical technologist met or differed from your expectations?

A: My first job as a surgical technologist has met the expectations I had of being able to expect the unexpected, being an advocate for my patients, and having a surgical conscience.

Q: How has your experience at Baptist University prepared you for your career as a surgical technologist, both in terms of technical skills and professional readiness?

A: Baptist University has helped me in so many ways. First, starting with my faith—I love how faith-based the university is and how it helped me strengthen my faith in God so He can provide me the strength and ability to do the things I need to do in the OR. I have also learned not to take things personally so I can remain professional.
