Baptist Memorial Health Care and Baptist Health Sciences University (BHSU) participated in the annual Junior Achievement JA Inspire Career Exploration Fair between Tuesday, May 6 and Thursday, May 8 at the Agricenter International in Memphis. The event served as a hands-on career expo for 2,000 eighth grade students from schools in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas.

Baptist offered a TeleGuardian exhibit to show students how technology is used to virtually monitor ICU patients 24/7 in real time.

STERIS joined Baptist to offer a lifelike surgery center where operating room nurses from Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis volunteered to perform mock surgeries with students. Arcadian Ambulance also joined Baptist to demonstrate how emergency medical technicians respond to an accident scene.

Baptist Cancer Center supplied healthy eating and colon health education with the help of MEGA Colon, an interactive large-scale model of the human colon.

BHSU provided hands-on activities with slides under the microscope, radiology demos and an “Epidemiological Outbreak,” an activity involving students figuring out where the outbreak first occurred.

BHSU staff shared HealthCORE information to help students interested in health care careers connect with BHSU programs and summer camps. Click here to learn more about HealthCORE.

In addition to this career fair for eighth grade students, JA Inspire offered a virtual platform for 11th graders to explore career options and learn more about summer opportunities. For more information, visit Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South.
