Baptist Health Sciences University recently kicked off the 2025–2026 academic year with a vibrant and engaging Welcome Week, filled with community-centered events, student life introductions, and spiritual reflection. Designed to ease students into campus life, the month-long series of events offered something for everyone—whether they were first-time freshmen or returning upperclassmen.

Welcome Week fostered a strong sense of belonging while laying the foundation for academic, spiritual, and personal success.

A Warm and Welcoming Start

Welcome Week began with "Hello Yellow: Move-In Day" on September 2, where student leaders and staff helped incoming students settle into campus housing. Volunteers created a supportive, energetic environment as families unloaded cars, decorated dorm rooms and said their goodbyes.

Adding to the spirit of hospitality, the B-H-S-HUE Alumni Pop-Up Cart made appearances throughout the week, providing students with free snacks, drinks while offering a chance to connect with alumni. These spontaneous drop-ins served as a bridge between current students and BHSU graduates, reinforcing a sense of legacy and community.

Campus Life in Full Color

On September 4, students were invited to attend “Blue & Brew: Meet Student Life,” a coffee hour designed to introduce them to the student services team and upcoming involvement opportunities.

The same day, students joined together in the chapel for “Prism: Opening Chapel,” a reflective and faith-centered experience focused on gratitude, worship, and prayer over the upcoming semester.

Later, male-identifying students enjoyed food and mentorship at the “Future Men in Health Care Cookout,” where they explored pathways to leadership and representation in the health care field. Memphis Mayor Paul Young delivered a powerful and uplifting message to the 50 attendees.

On September 5, academic excellence took center stage with “The Silver Spoon Social: Honors Tea,” a formal gathering for Honors College students that blended elegance with intellectual engagement.

The following Monday, the Golden Beginnings Convocation officially launched the academic year with remarks from BHSU leadership welcoming and recognizing new faculty members of the university. The day ended with the Color Shock Block Party, where students enjoyed music, food and interactive games—capping off the day with vibrant fun and fellowship.

Activities Designed for Success

The week’s events were also structured to encourage academic preparedness and personal reflection.

  • Green Flag: Start at the Library (September 9) introduced students to campus resources, research tools, and study support.
  • Blues Clues to Success: Vision Boards provided a creative outlet for students to set personal and professional goals.
  • Color Connection: Organization Fair gave students a chance to explore involvement in BHSU's student clubs and organizations, while Color War later that evening brought students together in friendly team competitions that emphasized teamwork, pride, and school spirit.

Ending with Rest and Reflection

The week concluded with the Student Retreat, held off-campus on September 26–28. This spiritual getaway gave students space to reflect, worship, and bond with peers before the first day of classes. With time for Bible study, outdoor activities, and small group discussions, the retreat served as a grounding experience to prepare students for the journey ahead.

Looking Ahead

Welcome Week 2025 embodied the spirit of BHSU—faith-driven, academically focused, and community-oriented. From move-in to chapel to team-building games, the week offered an intentional and joyful start to the year. Students left the month feeling energized, supported and ready to succeed in their personal, academic and professional pursuits.

As classes are now in full swing, BHSU looks forward to a year of growth, excellence, and continued celebration of the Blue Healer spirit.
